Já se passaram uns tempos desde a ultima vez que fizemos um post
no blog, entretanto temo-nos mantidos ocupados. Desde o último concerto que demos muita coisa se passou.

Desde o último concerto que demos muita coisa se passou.Apesar de continuarmos a trabalhar no CD a nossa atenção virou-se nestes ultimos tempos para as actuações ao vivo. Originalmente a ideia era termos o CD acabado e fazer uma mini-tournée para o promover porém como demos conta que não íamos ter tempo suficiente para o terminar na janela de tempo que nos permitia dar concertos para o promover decidimos não estar a apressar as coisas e começar os concertos de qualquer forma. Assim vamos dando a conhecer as músicas novas e vendo a reacção do público, o feedback deles pode ser-nos útil. Mas já iremos falar de concertos, para já as notícias de como correm as gravações.
Desde o último post (não do never ending story, esse foi parar à data de hoje porque eu fiz asneira ao experimentar a extensão para 'bloggar' a partir do firefox...) que avançamos principalmente na gravação das vozes. A 'intersection', a 'event horizon' e a 'home' já tem as vozes finais gravadas (espero eu!!) e já começamos a trabalhar nas misturas da 'home'. Espero que nestas próximas semanas dê tempo para avançar com a gravação das músicas antigas que faltam (a leftover glass... e a newborn), bem como tratar do resto das vozes. Sente-se a necessidade de fechar o capítulo da vida da banda que começou no ano passado e olhar para o futuro e para as músicas novas. E passemos aos concertos.
As bandas fazem-se nos palcos, por muito boa que a experiência de estúdio seja, se uma banda não é capaz de a traduzir satisfatoriamente a
sua música em palco não merece a designação de banda e por muito que se ensaie não há nada que possa substituir a experiência da estrada. É toda uma estrutura que é preciso criar-se, é a parte da logística que precisa de ser bem dominada, é o saber lidar com as tensões, irritabilidade que as viagens, o cansaço e os nervos por vezes criam entre os membros, tudo isso faz parte da experiência de fazer parte de uma banda e é algo que nós precisamos desesperadamente se queremos ter algum futuro neste meio. Nós como banda precisamos de dar conta de todas estas coisas agora, enquanto ainda somos pequenos e enquanto não há pressões ainda maiores em cima de nós. Vamos ter que saber sobreviver a tudo o que a estrada tem para nos atirar, espero que o resultado seja um grupo de pessoas mais forte, mais coeso, mais compreensivo uns com os outros e acima de tudo melhores músicos.
'O meu Mercedes é maior que o teu' é um bar na ribeira do Porto por onde já passaram alguns nomes sonantes do panorama alternativo nacional e internacional (e diga-se de passagem um dos bares mais bonitos da cidade). O concerto passou exactamente da mesma forma que o dia todo, a correr. Desde o trânsito infernal na auto-estrada, no porto, o atraso, o soundcheck apertado, o jantar que nunca mais ficava pronto (ainda por cima hamburgers em pão de forma blargh) que terminamos 5 minutos antes de os looney tones entrarem em palco, a corrida para o bar, trocar de roupa enquanto os looney tocavam, e subir ao palco.
O público foi generoso connosco, as 80 pessoas que enchiam o bar (grande parte das quais tinham
vindo de Vale de Cambra apoiar os Looney Tones) aplaudiam ao final de cada música e o concerto acabou antes de termos tido a hipótese de perceber se tinha corrido bem ou não. No final os habituais comentários pós concerto vindos das pessoas que tinham gostado, os nossos agradecimentos infinitos ao Pedro dos Looney por nos ter trocado uma corda que tinha partido no final da intersection, as perguntas "ouvias alguma coisa em cima do palco?" "não, nada e o que é que se passou com o amp na ultima música?" "não faço ideia só tive tempo de tirar o cabo e ligar directamente ao amp e tocar assim", etc. etc. Isto tudo condensado no tempo que levou a carregar o material nos carros e voltar para Coimbra. Ficou sobretudo a vontade de voltar ao Mercedes com mais tempo para poder apreciar melhor o palco e a vida do bar após o concerto.
Uma semana depois Soure, 100% Bar, experiencia diametralmente oposta á do Mercedes. O Mercedes é um bar com longo historial de concertos, planeado para esse efeito e
com um publico habituado às actuações ao vivo. No 100% Bar vive-se a experiencia dos primeiros concertos e toca-se para um público que ainda se está a habituar à presença da música ao vivo. Tivemos todo tempo do mundo para montar tudo e fazer o soundcheck, jantamos com o pessoal da organização e embrenhamo-nos numa convers
a que durou umas horas e que deu para perceber a simpatia e a dedicação das pessoas por trás da iniciativa. Pessoas com gosto genuíno pela música e que fazem tudo o que podem para hajam iniciativas que animem a localidade. Foi um concerto morno, com pouco publico que curiosamente se mostrou bem mais expressivo no final do concerto convidando-nos a beber uns copos e conversar. Fica de Soure sobretudo a simpatia do Miguel (que organizou o concerto) e dos donos do bar que não deixavam que os nossos copos ficassem vazios durante muito tempo. A viagem de volta para Coimbra foi animada pelo carro do Santiago que apitava sempre que se virava à direita e que nos proporcionou uma batelada de risos.

It's been a while since the last time we posted anything on this blog, in the mean time we've kept ourselves busy. We've done quite a few things since ou last gig .
Though
we are still recording our new work our attention has lately been focused on live performances. Originaly we wanted to finish the CD and do a mini tour to promote it, but we soon realised that we wouldn't have enough time to do both things in the time frame we had availlable. So we decided not to rush things and to start our live shows anyway. This way we'll be able to show our new songs to the audience whilst recording them and get a fell on how they react to them. But we'll get to the gigs soon enough, first a report about how things are going recording wise.
Since our last post (no, not never endig story, that one i screwed up whilst trying out a firefox extension for blogging and had to repost it) we mainly went about recording vocal tracks. 'Intersection', 'event horizon' and 'home' all have (i hope) their definitive vocals recorded and we already started working on mixing 'home'. I hope we have the chance to finish recording the last of teh old songs missing (leftover glass... and newborn) as well as work on the vocals for all of them. A need is felt to close a chapter that started last year in the life of the band and start working harder on the new songs. And now the gigs.
Bands make or break on stage, as good as the studio experience maybe, if a band can't translate it to the stage you can't call it a band and it doesn't matter how much you rehearse
nothing can substitute the experience you get from being on the road. It's a whole structure you have to create around you, it's the logistics you have to grasp, it's knowing how to deal with tensions that build up, the nerves, getting tired from the trips, everything that makes you and you fellow band members edgy. It's all part of the road experience and it's something we desperattly need if we are going to have any future in music. We as a band must learn how to grasp all these aspects while we are small and without any kind of outside pressure upon us, we must outlive them and hope that the end result is a tighter, stronger, more understanding group of better musicians.
'o meu Mercedes é maior que o teu' is a bar on the riverside of Porto (the second largest city in Portugal) where quite a few sounding names from the alternative international (and national too) scene have played and one of the most beautiful you can find in Porto. The gig went by like the day had gone before it, havoc. Infernal traffic jams in the highway and in Porto, arriving late to the gig, tight soundcheck, eating dinner in a rush and finishing it 5 minutes before Looney Tones (our friends that opened the gig that night) went on stage, changing while they were playing, and finally getting up on stage.
The audience was generous to us, most of the about 100 persons that were filling the bar (a lot of them coming from Vale de Cambra to give their support to Looney Tones) cheered us on at the end of each song and the gig rushed by and was over before we had t
he chance to figure out if it was being any good or not. At the end we had the usual post gig remarks from those that liked the show, we thanked Pedro from Looney Tones for replacing a broken string at the end of teh second song we played, we tried to understand amongst us what it had been like: "could you hear anything on stage?", "no, not a thing, what happened to your amp in the last song?", "I don't know i just had enough time to rip the cable out of the pedalboard plug it straight into the amp and keep playing like that", all of it condensed in the time we took to get everything in our cars and drive back to Coimbra. It was almost like taking a bite out of an icecream just before it fell on the floor, we barely had the chance to taste it. I hope we'll be able to play there again, with more time, and with a better chance to apreciate that stage, and the night life at the bar after the gig.
A week later, Soure, 100% Bar. Soure is a small town in the outskirts of Coimbra.
The absolute opposite experience we had teh week before. O meu Mercedes is a bar with a long history of live performances and with a audience that is used to that and to seeing a lot of bands playing live. 100% bar is taking it's first steps in this arena and you play for an audience that's just starting to get used to having musicians there playing. We had all the time in the world, we arrived early, did our soundcheck, had dinner with the guys organizing the gig, engaged on a hours long conversation about music that allowed us to realize how friendly and dedicated those people were to doing something about promoting music in their town with the few means they had.
It was a grey gig, with not many people watching, but that curiously were a lot more expressive when the gig was over inviting us to chat with them and have drinks. I think what we got out of teh Gig first and foremost was Miguel's (who organized the gig) and the bar owners simpathy and friendliness, after the gig they made sure our glasses were never empty and we kept on talking for a while afterwards. The trip back home was filled with laughter as Santiago's car honked out of control whenever he needed to turn the steering wheel.
Bring them on the more gigs the better, and the more different they are, the more experienced and ready we'll be.
